It’s a home to around fifty white sand beaches and it is impossible to choose just one as all of which are set around spectacular limestone formations and show off the finest and whitest sand ever and the water is so blindingly blue.

  • Blinky Beach, Lord Howe Island, Australia:

Besides its admirable surf, Blinky Beach, on the east side of Lord Howe Island, is extremely beautiful. It’s sited between Blinky Point and a peninsula known as Mutton Bird Lookout, and brag the indispensable powder white sand and azure waters. Behind it discover the tall dunes dotted with prickly spinifex and wild daisies.

Lopes Mendes is two miles of pure, uninhabited, powder-white sand that guides to some of the world’s clearest, most crystalline waters. It’s crammed with wild sea shrub, almond trees and squat palms, perfect for a nap beneath.

Fraser Island, listed in World Heritage as the largest sand island in the world. The dazzling golden sand beach is backed by blistering bronze cliffs, further beyond thriving rainforest rich with native wildlife.

It hugs the base of lofty, 40 foot limestone cliffs. Its pale, shiny sand leads invitingly into the clear, shallow Caribbean Sea, and it’s flanked by palms and fertile vegetation on either side. It’s located directly beneath the famous El Castillo ruins, which can be admired from the shore.

With its jet-black shore, lapis lazuli waters and thick jungle-like flora, Honokalani Beach is a photographer’s dream. Besides lying lazily on the tiny lava pebbles, there’s plenty to do; seaside lava tubes and sea caves carved into the lava cliffs along the shore. It’s wild, virgin Hawaii at its best.

The cumin coloured sand bounded by towering vegetation covered cliffs. Known as Cathedral Beach, it’s only accessible by water, so to get there, a swim from offshore boat or from neighbouring Kalalau Beach is essential.

  • Waipio Valley Beach, Big Island, HI:

A mile-long black volcanic sand beach bordered by 2000 foot cliff walls and backed by thick rainforest. At the south end of the beach, Kaluahine and Waiulili waterfalls cut into the cliffs and are accessible via a boulder strewn trail along the surf.

A stretch of silky, powder-white sand slopes gently into a shallow emerald lagoon and is backed by a thick curtain of palms and tropical foliage and perhaps the most famous of Tahiti’s beaches and it’s one of the only public access beaches in Bora Bora.

The most gorgeous beach in the Seychelles is the Anse Lazio, which is on the northwest tip of Praslin Island. The beach is long and broad with velvety sand and atrocious blue water, and it’s fringed with swaying palms and leafy takamaka trees. It is also framed by vast granite boulders on either side.

Every beach destination is completely unique in its own way and they all have widely different dive conditions and marine life. What is the foremost thing about a beach that attracts one?
