Devipattinam (Navabashanam)
Devipattinam aka Navabashanam is a beautiful coastal village near Rameshwaram. As the name indicated, the village got its name because of the devotion it sees towards the Devi or the Goddess. The ancient religious stories relate this place to the event when Mahishasura was slain by Goddess Durga Devi at this place. The place also relates to its connection with Lord Rama on his way to finding Devi Sita. One can see here the stone depiction of nine planets, installed by Lord Rama. Other temples to visit here- are the one dedicated to lord Thilakesava and the other to Jagannatha. The Thilakeshwar Temple worships Shiva and Parvathi (Durga), in the form of Thilakeswarar and Soundaryanayaki.
