The Ripon Building is a classic attraction of the city of Chennai. This all-white building was constructed in 1913 and was named after Lord Ripon, the then Governor-General of British India. The building holds the popularity because of its Neoclassical style of architecture. The architects see it as a fine combination of Gothic, Ionic and Corinthian architecture. Holding a rectangular shape with a central tower, glorified with a chiming clock having a diameter of about 8.2 feet, is the main thing that catches everyone’s attention. The clock specialty of this clock is being mechanical, demanding to wound every day. The building sees closure on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, so avoid visiting these days. Although entering inside the building is even not allowed on the opened days. The building now serves the Chennai corporation limited.
