Vishnupad Temple

The holy city of Gaya holds the most famous and ancient temple- Vishnupad Temple. The temple sees its place on the bank of Falgu River. The prime attraction of the temple is the footprint of Lord Vishnu embossed into a block of basalt. People believe that Lord Vishnu killed Gayasur here, by placing his foot on Gayasur’s chest. The temple in its history saw renovation by the Queen of Indore, Devi Ahilyabai, later in the eighteenth century. The temple holds a sacred place in the hearts of the people nationwide. it has been visited by thousands of visitors every year. There have been continuous discussions relating to the footprint of God. Hindus claim it to be of Lord Vishnu, while Buddhists consider it of Lord Buddha.
