Tarakeshwar Temple
The Taraknath temple is an ancient Hindu temple in West Bengal dedicated to god Shiva. The god is worshipped here as Baba Taraknath. It is one of the 12 abodes of Lord Shiva or the Jyotirlinga temples in India.
The holy temple is thought to be built in 1729 and not stands as a major Hindu pilgrimage of the state. The temple pulls thousands of Shiva devotees from around the country all year round. The place also sees local people visiting here to seek blessing from the god every day.
The temple flaunts the At-Chala structure of Bengal temple architecture including a ‘Nata Mandir’ in front. The temple also holds shrines of Kali and Lakshmi Narayan.
Festivals- The temple commences grand gathering and celebration during Sravan month, Maha Shivratri, Chaitra Sankranti, etc.
