Sri Ekambarnathar Temple
Ekambareswarar Temple in Kanchipuram, is the sacred Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, located. The temple holds the prestige of being among the Pancha Bootha Sthalams, representing the element – Earth.
The temple has witnessed its existence since at least 600 AD. Therefor, since ages it has also undergone several modifications. The then rulers would add or refurbish the existing structure.
The temple also holds a seperate shrine for Lord Vishnu named Thiru Nilaaththingal Thundathan. Here, the Lord Vishnu is worshipped as Vamana Murthy.
The temple covers a wide area of over 40 acres of land.
The mighty Raja gopuram of the temple stands 57 meters high and thus is one of the highest raja gopurams in the country.
The temple also attracts people from its thousand pillar hall.
