Royal Calcutta Turf Club
The Royal Calcutta Turf Club was the premier horse racing organization in India during the British rule. It was founded in 1847 in the then city of Calcutta.
The club holds great history and importance. It once saw itself as the governing body for almost all courses in the sub-continent, defining and applying the rules that governed the sport.
During the golden times of this prestigious club, the races it organized were among the most important social events of the calendar, opened by the Viceroy of India. Also, the Club used to organize The Calcutta Derby Sweeps, which was known to be the largest sweepstake in the world during the 1930s.
The club is still an exclusive private club and operates the Kolkata Race Course. There is much to be learned and praised about this place once you visit here.
