Phalgu River
Phalgu or Falgu river is a holy river that flows past Gaya. The river is of religious importance for both Hindus and Buddhists. Portion Falgu river flowing at Gaya is seen with great devotion by the Hindus. It makes the holy site for performing the Pinddaan- A special ritual to honor the souls of the ancestors. The holy river holds many mythological stories as well. People believe that the river had been cursed by Goddess Sita as the river lied about the Goddess to Lord Rama. The river was believed to be one of the major and longest river go the country but after being cursed by the goddess, got dried up. The water level of the river is not too deep and thus is always flocked b the devotees to perform various rituals. Buddhist believe that Gautam buddha practiced asceticism on the banks of this river, so this place and the river is of great religious importance for Buddhists too.
