Lodhi Garden is a historical park located in Delhi, India. Situated amidst the bustling city, this serene expanse holds great historical and architectural significance. At the heart of the gardens lies the Bara Gumbad, a sizable dome-shaped structure constructed during Sikandar Lodi’s reign in 1494. Serving as a passage to interconnected mosques or a walled enclosure, the dome and mosque showcase the architectural prowess of that era.
Opposite the Bara Gumbad stands the Mirror Dome, notable for its use of vibrant glazed tiles. The garden’s northern section features a stream that likely aligns with the path of Lodhi Garden along the Yellow Line Metro and the Yamuna River. Alongside this waterway, you’ll find the tomb of Sikandar Lodi, offering a glimpse into history. Visible from this tomb is the Athpula, or Eight-Pierced Bridge, an enduring symbol of Mughal architectural elegance.
This place serves as a vital archaeological site, presenting an intriguing fusion of Hindu and Islamic architectural elements. This juxtaposition of elaborate mausoleums against the backdrop of lush greenery makes it a captivating destination cherished by both locals and tourists.
