Kailasanathar Temple
Kanchi Kailasanathar Temple at Kanchipuram is an important Hindu pilgrimage, making its place on the banks of the Vedavathi River.
The temple holds the prestige of being the oldest temple of the state. The temple sees its construction between 685 A.D. and 705 A.D. It was the Pallava ruler Rajasimha who initiated building the temple and his son Mahendra Varma Pallava proudly completed it.
The Kanchi Kailasanathar temple is popular for its beautiful paintings and fine sculptures.
The temple holds one of the finest works of the Dravidian style of architecture. Also, the temple sees its construction of sandstone.
The main attraction and uniqueness of the temple are its sixteen-sided Shiva Lingam made all up of black granite sitting at the main shrine.
