Edward Elliot‘s Beach Chennai

Edward Elliot’s Beach popularly called Besant Nagar Beach or Bessie is located in Besant Nagar. It actually named after Edward Elliot, Governor of Madras and it forms the end-point of Marina Beach shore.

The nearby attractions of this beach are Velankanni Church and Ashtalakshmi Temple, which is about 20 years old with modern style architecture, is devoted to Goddess Lakshmi and the diety appears different from the rest of the Temples in South India.

Another  well-known landmark on this beach is the Karl Schmidt Memorial which is named after the Dutch sailor who lost his life in the process of saving others from drowning.

Elliot’s Beach is one of the cleanest beaches in the city of Chennai, located towards the south of Marina Beach and was an extremely calm and tranquil place. The crowd is policed by means of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) to prevent drowning mishaps.

Currently the beach does not offer much activity, it is ideal for long walks, soak feet in the splashing seawater and lose completely in the arms of the nature.

Elliot’s Beach is quite a hit amongst both the tourists as well as the natives of Tamil Nadu.
