Chinsurah Dutch Cemetery

The Dutch Cemetery of Chinsurah is a historic site of Bengal, constructed on the order of the director of the Dutch East India Company in Bengal. The cemetery and all its graves are now maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India under the protection of ancient monuments and archaeological sites and remains of national importance.

The Cemetery holds many graves. The oldest one reportedly dating back to the year 1743. The main attraction of the cemetery is the Tomb of Susanna Anna Marina, who is believed to have had seven husbands. This woman is believed to be the inspiration behind Ruskin Bond’s famous novel Susanna’s Seven Husbands and the Bollywood blockbuster Sat Khoon Maaf.

Reportedly the cemetery has hundred and ninety Dutch and British tombs.
