Gujari Mahal (State Archaeological Museum)

This was built for the 9th queen of Raja Man Singh Tomar “Mrignayani”. Now, this is converted into a museum which is open to all from sunrise to sunset except Mondays. It is also called the “Gwalior Fort Museum”, is a state museum in Gwalior, located in the fortress of Gujari Mahal. It displays numerous artifacts of the region, including a fragment of the Garuda capital of the Heliodorus pillar from Vidisha. Gujari Mahal has one of the best exteriors. The palace is now converted into an archeological museum. It has a large collection of Hindu and Jain sculptures. There is a school within the Mahal premises which was meant for the British soldiers. Now it is run by the Scindia’s as is regarded as one of the best schools in the country. The museum is also popular for a huge collection of photographs including the Bagh Cave paintings and monuments of India.
