Mae Sot Market

Visit this place to taste some of the mouth watering Burmese cuisine. Apart from the food stalls, the place is also famed for selling some of the traditional Burmese products and also varieties of clothes. You may take back some souviniers from here for your loved ones.

Borderline’s cooking classes

It is a best place of the region to sharpen your culinary skills. The lace is famed for teaching some of the unique recipes of the region and also the friendly environment of learning and enjoyment it offers.

Thararak Waterfall

Although you need to travel for some 40 kms, to reach this place, but that’s worthy seeing the beauty of this place. Thararak Waterfall is a captivating natural marvel located in the picturesque region of Mae Sot, Thailand. This enchanting waterfall presents a mesmerizing sight as crystal-clear water cascades down a series of rocky tiers, creating a soothing and harmonious symphony of nature. Border market aka Rim Moei Market

A shoppers paradise adorned with the stalls selling electronics, clothing, jewellery, food, souvenirs and much more. You can certainly sharpen your bargaining skills here. The market sits everyday between 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Ways to Reach Mae Sot

By Air: You can take a flight to Mae Sot Airport (MAQ) from Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport (DMK). Several airlines operate this route, making it a convenient option for travelers.

By Road: Buses run regularly from Bangkok’s Northern Bus Terminal (Mo Chit) to Mae Sot. The journey takes around 8-9 hours and offers a chance to enjoy the scenic countryside along the way. If you prefer a road trip, you can drive from Bangkok to Mae Sot. The distance is approximately 370 kilometers, and the journey takes around 6-7 hours, depending on traffic and stops. If you’re coming from Myanmar, you can cross the border at the Friendship Bridge in Myawaddy and then travel by road to Mae Sot. Ensure you have the necessary travel documents and check visa requirements beforehand.

By Train: Take a train from Bangkok to Tak, a town close to Mae Sot. From Tak, you can hop on a bus or hire a taxi for the remaining journey to Mae Sot.

Other Places to Visit

  • Borderline Shop- Apart from organising the cookery classes for the tourists, the shop also sells handmade goodies produced by refugee women.
  • Weave (Women’s Education for Advancement and Empowerment), Municipal Market and Walking Street- are other places to purchase the hand made goods.
  • Wat Thai Wattanaram Temple- Dating back to 1857, this holy temple is known for holding a 45-meter-long (147.6 feet) Buddha image in reclining position. Adding to the collection of the temple are 28 other buddha statues and a hall full of traditional instruments.
  • Herbal sauna and drink centre-  in the Buddhist temple.
  • Poe Htoo- It is a traditional Burmese tea shop which sells wide variety of Burmese snacks, meals, and drinks.
  • Mae Ka Sa Hot Springs and Cave- Making its place in the Mae Ka Sal village, Mae Ka Sa Hot Springs and Cave are tucked between mighty mountains and  forest greenery. Trekkers love to  explore this place and find the hidden gem of the nature.
  • Pha Charoen Waterfall- Another not to be missed place here is the Pha Charoen Waterfall.  Namtok Pha Charoen National Park holds this stunning waterfall which is famed for offering some stunning views and photographic locations. One can enjoy swimming and photography here from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
