Ways to reach Koh Si Chang

By Road: If you’re traveling from Bangkok or nearby areas, you can drive to the town of Sriracha, which is the closest mainland point to Koh Si Chang. The drive from Bangkok to Sriracha takes approximately 2-3 hours, depending on traffic conditions. You can also take a public bus or minivan from Bangkok to Sriracha and then transfer to a ferry to reach Koh Si Chang. . Several bus companies operate routes to Sriracha from different bus terminals in Bangkok. The journey by bus may take around 2-3 hours.

By Air: There is no airport on Koh Si Chang itself. The nearest major airports are Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok. From either airport, you can take a taxi or arrange for ground transportation to reach the town of Sriracha, which is the closest point on the mainland to Koh Si Chang. Once in Sriracha, you can access the island by ferry or private boat as mentioned earlier.

By Water: One of the most common ways to reach Koh Si Chang is by taking a ferry from the town of Sriracha on the mainland. Sriracha is approximately a 2-hour drive from Bangkok. You can easily find the ferry pier, and the boat ride to Koh Si Chang takes about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the type of ferry you choose. If you’re traveling with a larger group or prefer a more private experience, you can hire a private boat or charter a speedboat from various locations along the coast, including Pattaya. This option offers more flexibility in terms of departure times.

Tham Phang Beach

Haad Tham Phang is the primary beach you’ll find on Koh Si Chang. While it’s not very big, it’s perfect for unwinding beside the beautiful, crystal-clear, blue-green waters. You can even rent a kayak and grab a cold beer from the little shop right on the beach. Plus, there are a few other cozy beaches to explore around the island.

Wat Tham Yai Prik & Golden Buddha

In the heart of the island, nestled between Tham Phang Beach and the old town, you’ll discover the Wat Tham Yai Prik Buddhist temple and meditation center. The Chao Pho Khao Yai Shrine is a Chinese temple with another name, “Shrine of the Father Spirit of the Great Mountain.” It’s thought to have been established by Chinese traders and is devoted to the spiritual entity residing within the nearby caves.

Summer Palace and Gardens

The Judhadhut Palace serves as the summer home for the royal family, and you can find it on the east side of the island. The main structure of the palace, known as the Vimanmek Mansion, is a remarkable building entirely constructed from teakwood. In addition to the palace itself, the grounds also feature lovely gardens, serene ponds, and pleasant walkways to explore.

Buddha Footprint

On Koh Si Chang, there’s a replica of Buddha’s footprint enclosed within a traditional Thai pavilion. You’ll find it perched on a hill close to the Chinese Temple. To reach it, you’ll need to climb about 500 steps, which might seem like a bit of effort, but the reward at the summit is absolutely stunning.
