Polonnaruwa
Poḷonnaruwa sees itself as the main town of Polonnaruwa District in North Central Province, Sri Lanka. The town has historical, and archaeological importance and also listed as the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Polonnaruwa, one of the best-preserved historic cities and the second capital of Sri Lanka. It became right after the destruction of Anuradhapura in 993.
Kaduruwela area is the Polonnaruwa New Town and other areas were the royal ancient city of the Kingdom of Polonnaruwa. The city also holds many stupas and monasteries. This ancient town has much to show. The well-organised campuses and complexes with finished and finely carved dwelling area make the town even more amazing and worth exploring.
Another important attraction here is the vast Parakrama Samudra. This mighty dam is 14 Km long and 12 metres high and is truly an ancient architectural marvel. Other places to explore here include Royal Palace of King Parakramabahu I, Shiva Shrine, The Thuparama, The Vatadage, Nissanka Lata Mandapaya, The Satmahal Prasada, Hatadage, Gal Potha, Pabulum Vehera and much more.
