Thane
A city right on the outskirts of Mumbai, well connected with roads and railway, harbors almost 30 lakes, and hence magnets the name ‘City of Lakes’. This is none other than Thane. The city, just like others in Maharashtra, has a lot to offer.
For nature lovers, the Elvis Butterfly Garden, an open-air butterfly park, is a prominent attraction. Ovalekar Wadi Butterfly Garden is another similar place situated in Ovale village where almost 500 species of butterflies can be seen all year round. If butterflies weren’t enough, Thane has got the Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary. It’s truly a birdwatcher’s paradise because of being less famous and calmer. It will be also worth a to visit the Tansa Wildlife Sanctuary.
For history buffs the city offers a lot of forts, the oldest and most popular being Ghodbunder Fort. Others among many are Gorakhgad and Machidragad, which are twin forts.
Thane has a lot of options, to be honest when it comes to short weekend getaways and again, that’s what the corporate life has left for us. Sargam Water Park and Resort which makes a happy family place to be in, in the arms of natural mango orchards. Another one is Tikuji-Di-Wadi and Vardhaman Fantasy Amusement Park. The latter one is famous for replicating Seven Wonders of the World in miniature sizes.
Talking of more serene places, the Upvan Lake is called as lover’s paradise. It is artificially built but is eco-friendly. There are a few beaches as well, the most scenic one being Kelva beach which has a coastline seven kilometers long along the Arabian Sea.
Thane in all has a bagful to offer.
