Mount Abu

Mount Abu is a beautiful hill station in the Aravalli Range in Sirohi district of Rajasthan state in western India. The most attractive place here is a rocky plateau which is 22 km long by 9 km wide. Guru Shikhar which lies at an altitude of 1,722 m (5,650 ft) makes the highest peak of the mountain. This peak holds great importance as it contains rivers, lakes, waterfalls and evergreen forests.

Mount Abu was earlier known by the name Arbudaanchal. The mountain holds great religious beliefs and is a hot spot of many mythological stories. People often take Mount Abu tour to fulfil their religious beliefs.

The top attraction of the mountain is The Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary, which was established in 1960 and sprawls over 290 km² lands of the mountain.

The religious sites here are Adhar Devi Temple (aka Arbuda Devi Temple), Shri Raghunathji Temple, Dattatreya temple and a number of Jain temples including Dilwara Temples.

The oldest temple to note here is the Vimal Vasahi temple, which was built in 1021 CE by Vimal Shah and is dedicated to the first of the Jain Tirthankaras. Another yet important place to visit here is the stunning headquarters of Prajapita Bhramakumari. The setup is awe-inspiring and extremely organised.
