Hooghly Imambara
A must visit place in Hooghly is the beautiful Hooghly Imambara. Situated on the western bank of Bhagirathi-Hooghly rivers it is a sacred Muslim place.
The Building is stunning with two floors and admirable architecture. The construction of the Bara reportedly took 20 years. It was started in 1841 and completed in 1861. Mohammad Mohsin was the person who took charge of constructing this iconic building.
The walls of this Imambara are adorned with the holy texts from the Quran. One of the most attractive features of this place is the vintage clock situated between the twin towers.
This place belongs to the Shia Muslim community and is a congregation hall and mosque.
