Nainital is a Himalayan resort town in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand state, at an elevation of roughly 2,000m. A cable car runs to Snow View observation point, with vistas over the town and mountains including Nanda Devi, Uttarakhand’s highest peak.

Nainital Lake

It is a natural freshwater body, situated amidst the township, tectonic in origin and is kidney shaped or crescent shaped and has an outfall at the southeastern end.

It is called the Lake District of India. Nainital lake is one of the four Lakes of Kumaon hills; the other three lakes are the Sattal Lake, the Bhimtal Lake and the Naukuchiyatal Lake

Gurney House

It is a historic building and was the residence of hunter-conservationist and writer Jim Corbett. It is located near Nainital Lake, and was built in 1881. The cottage was constructed in 1880 with the dismantled material of their earlier house on Alma Hill. And hence the name implying a house built of carted material of a dismantled house.

Sattal

It is an interconnected group of seven freshwater lakes situated in the Lower Himalayan Range near Bhimtal. During the British Raj, the area had a tea plantation, one of four in the Kumaon area at that time. The lakes sit at an altitude of 1370 metres below lush orchards in the Mehragaon valley.

Set amongst dense forests of oak and pine trees, Sattal is one of the few unspoiled and unpolluted freshwater biomes in India. These lakes are a paradise for migratory birds.
