Vizhinjam Harbour

Vizhinjam Harbour is known as fishing village which is just 2-km south of Kovalam. Vizhinjam fishing harbour is yet another place of significance in Trivandrum district. The place is famous because of a demonstration plant which converts the energy from sea waves to electricity and this is then provided to the local net here.

The plant works has benefited the local inhabitants here in many ways. Vizhinjam Harbour is a natural port which is about to be developed as a major port for which spade work is already in progress. It is the busiest fishing harbour in Thiruvananthapuram district humming with activities all the days. The sight of hundreds of fishing boats crowding on the harbour is delighting. fish-foul smell is little problem in this area, but a far view and some other places are quite interesting.

The ministry of tourism is introducing some grand projects for boosting up the scope of tourism here. Vizhinjam is regarded as the perfect place for such projects because of the unique marine ecology with rich biodiversity. Plans for setting up a diving school, marine museum, research centre, mari-culture system development unit and many more are there. Most of them are progressing with rapid pace as well.

If you are planning to make a visit to Vizhinjam, remember that you will be mostly under open sky. Even though the weather is pleasant in the morning time and evening, by noon it gets really warm. So, its better to apply sunscreen lotion and always carry drinking water is good for you.it is better to avoid visiting these place during March to September.
